In Luke’s Gospel, when the Angel Gabriel tells her of her pregnancy, Mary sings,

Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me,

and holy is his name.

His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

(Luke 1: 48b-50)

Mary knew in her vulnerability that this journey would be hard. She also knew it was not just hers, but that she was part of a bigger story of salvation that would span the generations.
