What We Believe

  • Jesus Christ

    We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death, and resurrection demonstrate God’s redeeming love.

  • God

    When we say the Apostles’ Creed, we join with millions of Christians through the ages in an understanding of God as a Trinity—three persons in one: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons. “God in three persons, blessed Trinity” is one way of speaking about the several ways we experience God.

  • Holy Spirit

    The Holy Spirit is God’s present activity in our midst. When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support or comfort, it’s the Holy Spirit at work.

  • Human Beings

    Genesis 1:27 asserts that are made in the image of the Creator.

  • The Church

    The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

  • The Bible

    We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

Sacraments

Baptism.

All those who receive the sacrament in a United Methodist congregation are baptized members of the Church universal, the denomination of The United Methodist Church, and their local congregation, regardless of age. if you are interested in baptism for yourself or a child, please contact the church office.

Holy Communion.

According to This Holy Mystery, The United Methodist Church's official document on communion, "The Lord's Supper reminds us that Jesus Christ is the host and that we participate at Christ's invitation." Jesus invites us to take part in the special meal he ate with his disciples the night before his crucifixion, and other meals he shared in homes and on hillsides. Haygood generally shares in Holy Communion at least the first Sunday of every month, and on other special occasions.
