  • Food Pantry

Haygood’s Food Pantry operates Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00am until 12:00pm.

Each guest can visit the Food Pantry once a week. Call the church office at (757) 499 1269 to place an order on the morning of your visit. It takes between 30 to 45 minutes to prepare each order upon receiving a call.

Call the church office or email the church office with any questions.

Volunteers are welcome in the pantry for stocking and serving our community. Contact the church office for more information.

  • Children’s Clothing Exchange

Families can bring clothing that is too small for their children and exchange it for larger sizes at no cost. Just bring clean, gently used clothing from newborn to size 14. For each item you bring you will receive one credit, which you can exchange for a new item at the time or carry the credits for exchanging in the future. The exchange is open on Tuesday Afternoons from 3pm to 6pm and Thursday Mornings From 9am to 12pm. No appointment needed. Go to door number 12 by the white chapel on the east side of the building.

Volunteers are always welcome in the Children’s Clothing Exchange to sort clothing as well as work with clients. Contact the church office for more information.

  • Appalachia Service Project

Appalachia Service Project is a home repair ministry, founded in 1969, with a mission to make homes in Central Appalachia warmer, safer and drier. Haygood has sent mission teams to ASP for a week in the summer for 41 years, since the early 1980’s. We have a member who is on ASP’s Board of Directors, and have brought the program back home through our HARK program. You can go to ASPHome.org to find out more.

Mission Trips are open to youth ages 13 and up and adults of any age. During the week of mission we will have teams from Haygood work on different homes that are in need of repair. The homes and families are preselected by ASP through an application process. Participants can expect to work hard but also learn and grow spiritually through serving others.

  • Hark

Haygood’s Acts of Random Kindness (HARK) is a local ministry devoted to sharing our love of Christ and a desire to help our community with projects in and around their home. It is our prayer that through our service families can see a joy that transcends even the most menial task and take encouragement from the fact that God loves all of us.

HARK is a simple ministry in that we help families with home projects they may not be able to complete themselves. If material is needed we ask the homeowner to cover the cost (exceptions are made if there is need).Any donations are optional and 100% of what is given is put right back into the ministry.

  • JCOC Meals

Four times a year Haygood prepares meals for the Judeo Christian Outreach Center located near the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. This is a primary spot in our community where the homeless can receive a meal each day. Volunteers are recruited from the church to prepare, serve and clean up the meals.

  • Amanda Owens Quilt Ministry

The quilt ministry provides prayer quilts to people in the congregation and community who are going through difficult times (illness, grief, etc.). Members stitch each quilt and there are knots on the quilt for people to tie as they pray for the person who will receive the quilts.

  • Hammer and Nails Team

The Hammer and Nails Team is a volunteer group that assists with minor repairs and maintenance around the church. Volunteers are always welcome.

  • Funeral Hosts

    Funeral Hosts

Customs have changed. People often do not employ a funeral home to conduct a service in a church. A family arrives with an urn and then friends follow. This means our church needs a group to host funerals. These volunteers help visitors find their way around, answer questions and do other things. We are grateful to Don Jackson for heading our new Funeral Hosts Group. If you are interested in being a part of this group speak with Don.

  • Counters Needed

We need volunteers to fill in as counters during the months of May and October starting next year (2025). If you are interested, you can email Cheri Franklin at finsecretary@haygoodumcvb.org.
